Your role

 

Join our team as a Business Analyst with the Accounting team in Ottawa.

 

The Business Analyst will play a key role in supporting the Business Process Team by combining expertise in project accounting and data analysis. This position is responsible for developing a comprehensive understanding of project lifecycle processes, including project setup and transaction and data flow.

The Business Analyst will work closely with the Project Accounting and Corporate Accounting teams with respect to project accounting, reporting and analysis.  In addition, the Business Analyst will support business process improvements, system enhancements, and testing initiatives to ensure data integrity and operational effectiveness across the organization.

 

Responsibilities

  • Obtain a thorough understanding of the end-to-end project lifecycle within the accounting environment, including master data, project setup, and transactions.
  • Analyze and interpret project-related data flows to ensure accuracy, completeness, efficiency and compliance with established policies.
  • Investigate data issues, identify root causes, and collaborate with various groups to improve data quality.
  • Develop, review and analyze reports to support various major clients.
  • Standardize and improve analyses and reports to monitor performance and trends.
  • Support the month-end closing processes by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring accurate financial data for reporting purposes.
  • Support forecasting and annual budgeting processes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate, test, and implement process and system enhancements related to project accounting.
  • Support ERP upgrades, system implementations, and automation initiatives by acting as a subject matter expert for project accounting data and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in project accounting, financial analysis, or business process improvement.
  • Solid understanding of project accounting principles, including project setup, billing, revenue recognition, and cost allocation.
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel and proficient in other analytical/reporting tools.
  • Experience with system testing, ERP implementation, or automation initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, compliance requirements, and best practices in project accounting.
