Your Role

 

Join our team as an Assistant Project Manager in the Atlantic business unit!

 

In this role, you will get the opportunity to work with experienced project managers and get the opportunity to sharpen your skills on diverse range of projects varying in scope and complexity across Newfoundland and Labrador. You will hone your project management skills by contributing to various projects from commercial buildings and fit-ups, social organizations, infrastructure, water and wastewater as well as a variety of projects within municipalities and Indigenous communities.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside experienced project managers, learning key skills to meeting client satisfaction and successful project delivery
  • Provide project support to Project Managers by managing schedule updates, maintaining project controls, developing progress reports and preparing tender and contract documents
  • Provide a communication path between the Project Manager and other project stakeholders
  • Attend various project meetings, capturing accurate action items and key decisions in meeting minutes
  • Engage in on-site organization of contractors and consultants
  • Participate in on-site inspections across Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Ensure that project activities are conducted in accordance with Colliers Project Leaders Quality Management System
  • Provide relief support to other Assistant Project Managers or Project Managers, when available to do so

Qualifications

  • A university degree or diploma in engineering, architecture, construction management or project management (or an equivalent combination of academic and practical experience)
  • Previous exposure to consultant and design management, construction contract administration or project financials is an asset 
  • 1-2 years of experience in project management consulting supporting the delivery of projects in areas such as construction, engineering or architecture (previous experience can include summer work terms, co-operative education programs or internships)
  • An overall general understanding of current construction practices including an understanding of project delivery models, including design-build, construction management, design-bid-build is an asset
  • Self-motivation, initiative and an eagerness to learn and contribute to meeting project deliverables
  • A results-oriented approach with the ability to take responsibility
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of scheduling (MS Project), word processing (Word) and spreadsheet (Excel) software applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • A results-oriented approach with the ability to take action and responsibility
  • Exceptional detail orientation, organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet tight deadlines and client expectations
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of scheduling (MS Project), word processing (Word) and spreadsheet (Excel) software applications
  • CAPM, LEED or other relevant industry accreditation is considered a strong asset. (you will be asked to work towards obtaining the Project Management Professional Designation (PMP) through the Project Management Institute)
