Join our team as a Senior Project Manager with the Northern Canada team in Yellowknife.

 

In this role, you’ll work closely with clients to provide strategic advice and have the rewarding opportunity to contribute to meaningful change through projects that enhance access to housing, clean drinking water, education, emergency management recovery, and community infrastructure. This opportunity requires someone either based in Yellowknife or willing to relocate to the area. This is a leadership opportunity that will enable the right candidate to grow a service business that aligns with their own personal and cultural values and reflects the needs of the communities that we serve. We are seeking an aspiring, self-motivated, and collaborative Senior Project Manager to join our team of experts committed to leading projects and building relationships across our Northern Canada business unit. This position will empower and support a team of project managers and assistant project managers.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with clients in the early conceptual stages of project initiation to ensure a strategic approach to project planning, setup and delivery
  • Be a trusted advisor to the client, applying your understanding of planning, procurement, design, and construction of infrastructure
  • Your clients will be impressed with your ability to represent their best interests regarding contractual and technical issues
  • Your project teams will rely on your ability to manage change, communicate and coordinate between multiple stakeholders, resolve issues, and deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Demonstrate financial and business acumen
  • Identify and escalate commercial, financial, or human resources issues to the Account Manager, Team Lead or Principal
  • Lead programs of work and large capital projects varying in scope and complexity
  • Delegate and oversee the delivery of multi-disciplined projects and project team performance
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients and respond to new business opportunities with support from the Business Development Team, Principal or Regional Vice President
  • Lead the implementation of training and tools in support of service delivery
  • Lead business development and account management activities in the north and create a culture of quality

Qualifications

  • A university degree in a relevant engineering, architecture, project management or construction management discipline
  • 5 to 10 years of experience leading project management mandates of varying size and scope, involving multiple stakeholders (or a related mix of academic and practical experience)
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, project management models, financial management, as well as relevant codes, contract law and legislation
  • A broad written and verbal communication skill set including strong presentation, stakeholder facilitation and report writing skills
  • Excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and external industry subject matter experts
  • Experience working in the North, building and nurturing long-term client relationships, and working collaboratively with local governments and First Nations is considered a strong asset
  • Experience closing new business, winning key pursuits, and mentoring new employees
  • Leadership and organizational skills with a proven ability to effectively influence others and resolve client, project, staff, and technical matters
  • Demonstrated ambition and ability to develop and grow new business lines
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to quality standards
  • Professional industry credentials such as PMP, P.Eng., CET, RA or other similar professional designation is considered a strong asset
  • Proficient in MS Project, MS Word and MS Excel
